INTRODUCING OUR CITY TOURS

TAKING A WALK IN LIVORNO:Livorno is just the right place for going on our city tours, where you can visit the historic town centre simply by walking or even by sailing down the typical canals called "fossi" on a boating trip in one of the most fascinating town districts known as "Venezia", that was really modelled on Venice in the seventeenth century, and then entering the "Fortezza Vecchia", the mighty fortress dominating the sea, erected in the Renaissance by the Medici's, the Princes of Florence.

Come and visit the "Giovanni Fattori City Museum" with your tour guide at "Villa Mimbelli", a magnificent nineteenth century villa steeped in luxuriant vegetation where many of the famous "Macchiaioli" artists' masterpieces are kept and important art exhibitions are held all year round.

Also see the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Montenero, patron of Tuscany, and enjoy a pleasant religious tour by taking a ride on the traditional "funicolare", a special cable railway that will take you to one of Tuscany's most famous destination places of pilgrimage and prayer, with it's lovely chapels, deep caverns and beautiful landscapes. The Sanctuary, along with Our Lady's Church, is also a very interesting site which combines art, history, tradition and legend all in one, with it's Hall of Fame Arcade, frescoes, sculptures, paintings and Ex Voto Gallery.

And last, but not least, when visiting Livorno, you can't possibly miss it's gastronomical specialities like "cinque e cinque", salted flat bread with a savoury chickpea pie filling and a sprinkle of black pepper, made in the town bakeries, or "cacciucco", the delicious local fish soup renowned all over Italy, and "ponce alla livornese", a strong hot-drink made with espresso coffee, rum, sugar and lemon peel, which you can enjoy in the typical "trattorias" or small restaurants anywhere downtown.
